In August 2004, Valley Prep Academy, the mother school to Aspen Public School, opened as an independent study program in a small office location. However, interest began to grow with community members for a larger site-based program. The location was moved to a residential leased facility two blocks away. After the Fresno Unified School District renewed Valley Prep's charter petition in 2007, the school operated as a site-based/independent study hybrid program. Today it is a full site-based program that serves about 360 students.
Since Valley Prep has continued to maintain a long wait-list, and the desire to have small, thriving classrooms has continued, the decision to open a new school was made. Aspen Public School will open in August of 2016 with grades TK-2nd grade. An additional grade will be added each year.
